They say that moving is ranked as one of the most stressful life events and I can say, after moving my family from PA to North Carolina, that "they" aren't joking!
It all began with a phone call that my husband received from a company in downtown Charlotte, asking if he would be interested in interviewing for a position with them. We both knew that if this interview went well, it would mean relocating to North Carolina after spending the entirety of our lives in Philadelphia. Long story short, he got the job and it was time for us to begin looking for a house! From the minute we drove into downtown Davidson, I knew that that was the area that I wanted to live. It's charming and quaint and sits right on Lake Norman. But being a lifelong city girl, it also gave me quick access to Charlotte. We found the perfect spot for our new home then broke ground in April 2020 - in the midst of a Covid breakout.
Nothing could have prepared me for the feeling of driving away from our empty home on a quiet little cu-de-sac for the very last time. We had made so many memories and forged unbreakable friendships and the idea of heading to a new state and 'starting over' was terrifying. I was leaving behind clients who I had been photographing for TEN YEARS. I shot their pregnancy announcements, babies, birthdays and every holiday in-between!
We spent the summer of 2020 with our family and friends - camping, swimming, lounging on the Jersey beaches, having BBQs in my parents' backyard. All the while, I was counting down the days until our big move -- a 9 hour drive from the only home we've ever known. We left PA on August 9th and headed south to begin our newest adventure. My boys started 6th grade (virtually) at their new school while Justin and I got to work setting up a new home for them. We've met some wonderful people who we are delighted to call our 'friends,' we've had adventures on the lake, at parks, the Whitewater Center, the NASCAR Museum and even a quarry! I think that my most favorite experience was bringing home the newest member of our family - an Aussiedoodle named, Ollie.
As for my business, it was scary knowing that I was leaving my beloved clients behind but I am looking forward to meeting new families in the Charlotte and Lake Norman area! I can't wait to begin shooting again and helping to preserve families' memories in a meaningful and fun way. I love photography. There isn't a greater rush for me than capturing beautiful images of families laughing and smiling - and everything in between!
